Male gaze

--Identification-----with the male lead:his actions become surrogate for our own part in the narrative.we phsycologically align ourselves with his point of view he is the ideal ego.

--Objectification----- of the males romantic interest the male lead desires the female form. as we are aligned with his point of view the audience desire the female lead also.

freud and lacan

-we construct our identities by looking at ourselves and at each other. As children we derive pleasure from looking at other poeples bodies(scopophilia)

-The first time we fully see ourselves in a mirror is the first time we understand ourselves as poeple.

-Cinema allows us to look at other poeple without being seen ourselves.we enjoy this sense of voyerism.

genre as a marketing tool

The Omen the first thing we notice is the generic colours of dull greys alos having the dead trees in the background with the light mist creates a generic atmosphere(a spooky mood) the dog in the foreground also gives the poster a sinister feel very much like theboy who is enshrouded with shadow which tells the audienvce that the film will be dark and shadowey(scary horror film)

Close up

Close up
useally a close up is on a face to show facial expression

Over shoulder

Over the shoulder shot
used in conversations to capture ones facial expressions from over the shoulder of thy other

Medium shot/high angle

Medium shot
Captures the people at waist-upwards also captures hand and face gestures (if they were facing the right way)
Its also a high angle shot because of the camera level however high angle shots are normally
to show status.

long shot

Long shot
used to introduce character(appearance)and background

very long/over the shoulder shot (two shot)

Very longshot
Used for establishing distance, setting, and it sets the scene
also over the shoulder to catch the (in this case)view from behind the character usually used in conversations.
This could also be a two shot as there are two people in the shot.
